History of COVID-19

The following are graphs of COViD-19 statistics from USA, Spain, Italy, France – the top 5, 6 or 7 countries by number of cases. This article will be updated approximately every 24 hours (initially at 17:55 GMT, but I’ve changed – on June 29th, to 23:55 GMT – to show just about an entire 24 hour picture). Is This Some New Virus?

We’ve kind of been aware of the possibility since 2015, when A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence was published in Nature.

Symptoms of COViD-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 (estimated ranges vary from 2-10 days, 2-14 days, and 10-14 days, see details), during which the virus is contagious but the patient does not display any symptom (asymptomatic transmission).

(This is not an advertisement, but Walmart is still selling N95-equivalent face masks for about $100, shipped, with an apparent shipping time of about a week. While this won’t filter out all SARS-CoV-2 viruses [it will filter out some], it will filter out just about all the droplets the viruses are in, which is what you inhale. [Droplets from a cough range in size from 0.62 to 15.9 µm. Droplets from a sneeze or speech are generally a bit larger. But even a cheap N95 filter should filter out most particles larger than 0.3µm, which is half the size of the smallest droplets we’re concerned with.] And if you’re not paranoid about COViD-19, you’re being foolish, to say the least.)

If people look at you strangely when you go shopping wearing what looks like a World War 2 gas mask, and plastic or surgical gloves, either ignore it or you can say something like, “At least I’m taking whatever precautions I can.”
